JR Hokkaido begins commercially operating Dual-Mode Vehicle

ABASHIRI, Japan - Hokkaido Railway Co. (JR Hokkaido) on April 14 began commercial operations on a test basis of its Dual-Mode Vehicle -- a minibus with retractable train wheels for use on tracks -- on part of the Semmo Line along the Sea of Okhotsk in Japan's northernmost prefecture. The picture above shows the single-carriage train running on tracks in Abashiri, while the photo below shows the DMV traveling as a microbus. (Kyodo)
