Okada announces candidacy for DPJ presidential race

TOKYO, Japan - Katsuya Okada, vice president of the main opposition Democratic Party of Japan, announces his candidacy for the party's presidential election to be held on May 16 during a press conference at DPJ headquarters in Tokyo on May 14. Earlier in the day, DPJ Secretary General Yukio Hatoyama also announced his candidacy for the election. (Kyodo)

Solidarity rallies were also held in cities worldwide.
