Tension mounts for Japanese troops in S. Sudan
A Ground Self-Defense Force member involved in U.N. peacekeeping operations in Juba carries firearms inconspicuously on Dec. 12, 2016, out of consideration to local sentiments. The Japanese troops have also been handed new responsibilities, including the possible rescue of U.N. staff and other personnel under attack and of playing a bigger part in protecting the camps of U.N. peacekeepers.
