12th-century tiles found in Fukuoka possibly produced in China
Photo taken at the Kagoshima prefectural government office on July 9, 2015, shows replicas of three 12th-century tiles unearthed in the southwestern Japanese city of Fukuoka. The International University of Kagoshima says its research found that the tiles were produced with the same mold as those made in Ningbo, southern China, and that it suggests they must have been transported some 1,000 kilometers from the continent in trade with the Song dynasty.
