Iwate high school team awarded for decade-long tsunami education outreach

Members of the Tsunami Model Club of Miyako Technical High School in Miyako, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, pose at an elementary school on July 22, 2015, with their handmade model of a local landscape that they use to demonstrate to schoolchildren how tsunami waves reach inland. The student club won the Grand Prix at the 2015 Japan Water Prize for its decade-long outreach program to raise awareness and pass on lessons learnt from past tsunami disasters in the area.
