BOJ says 2 board members without diplomas "completed" PhD programs
Undated combined photo shows Bank of Japan Policy Board member Makoto Sakurai and Deputy Governor Kikuo Iwata. The central bank said on May 9, 2016, that its website states the two Policy Board members "completed a Ph.D. program in economics" at the University of Tokyo graduate school, not that they held doctoral degrees, responding to a weekly magazine report that said Sakurai may have fabricated details of his academic record.
