Japan decides to ask UNESCO to list remote islands, Christian sites

The Japanese government said on Jan. 19, 2017, that it will submit a proposal to UNESCO to add a number of sites linked to the history of Japan's persecuted Christians, including the church, to the cultural sites on the World Heritage list, along with a number of islands in the country's southwest to the natural sites.
