Photo taken in June 2016 shows a forest area called Yambaru, the northern part of Okinawa Prefecture's main island. The Japanese government said on Jan. 19, 2017, that it will submit a proposal to UNESCO to add a number of islands in the country's southwest, including the area, to the natural sites on the World Heritage list, along with a number of sites linked to the history of Japan's persecuted Christians to the cultural sites.
