U.S. army facility still occupies land in central Tokyo
A helicopter of the U.S. forces carrying U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis takes off from Akasaka Press Center, a facility of the U.S. army in Roppongi district in central Tokyo on Feb. 4, 2017. The facility occupies about 27,000 hectares of land in central Tokyo that was seized by the U.S. after Japan's surrender to the Allies of World War II in 1945. The Tokyo metropolitan government has been demanding the U.S. return the land. In the background is the Roppongi Hills building complex. (Kyodo)
