Woman sues Japan gov't over forced sterilization under eugenics law
The sister-in-law of a woman who is seeking damages from the Japanese government over her forced sterilization under the now-defunct eugenic protection law meets the press in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture in northeastern Japan on Jan. 30, 2018 after the woman filed a lawsuit with a local court earlier in the day. The woman, in her 60s, demanded 11 million yen ($101,000) in damages and an apology from the state over her forced sterilization when she was a teenager under the 1948 law.
