Soshido Seishinkaku at Minobusan Kuonji Temple, headquarters of the Nichiren Sect of Japanese Buddhism. This temple is located in Minobu-machi, Minamikoma-gun, Yamanashi Prefecture. Seishinkaku is the place where a famous statue of Nichiren, the founder of the sect, is located. However, the building erected in the Edo Period was destroyed by fire in 1875.     KYOTO, Japan - Yakushi, a statute of the Buddha of healing kept at Sanzen'in temple in Kyodo, is opened to the public for the first time in 1,200 years on Sept. 8. The wooden statute, which stands about 1.2 meters high, was craved by Saicho (767-822), the founder of the Tendai sect of Buddhism, during the Enryaku era (782-806). Sanzen'in said it opened the statue to the public in commemoration of the 1,200th anniversary of its foundation.

          The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a seated Amitabha Buddha (Amida Nyorai) made of bronze. Designated as a National Treasure in 1897, it is the main object of worship at Kohtokuin Shojosenji Temple. Historic documents state that work began on a gilt statue of Shaka Nyorai Buddha about 13.5 meters in height in the year 1252. It is not known when it became a statue of Amida Buddha.             Like photograph #2276, this is a northern view from the entrance of Nakamise, the present location of Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate). The shopping area between Kaminarimon and Niomon is called Nakamise. Legend has it that the priests of Sensoji Temple asked the local people to keep the temple grounds clean and in return gave them permission to set up shops there. Buildings of brick construction were erected in 1885 in imitation of the Ginza Street.               This Kannon-do was rebuilt by the third shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu in 1649. The style of construction is koran mitesaki-zukuri. The photograph captures a flock of pigeons flying from Niomon (gate). The building burned down in an air raid on March 10, 1945. The present-day Kannon-do was erected on October 17, 1958. The plaque Sensoji is based on calligraphy by the head priest of the Tendai Sect, Ryosho Hoshin-o.
