      These wisteria terraces were all destroyed during World War II air raids. The wisteria trees of today were planted one by one from around 1950 by the local people. The wisteria blossoms at Kameido Tenjin Shrine are said to be the best in Tokyo, and they were chosen as one of the New Best One Hundred Scenes of Tokyo.         An elderly woman prays for good luck by touching the bronze cow on a stone pedestal at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine. The statue was donated by shrine followers. The woman is wearing a hand towel on her head, holding a cane in her right hand, and touching the hind leg of the cow with her left hand. Early blooming plum trees are visible in the background. The shrine's guardian deity, the cow was regarded as a messenger of Sugawara-no-Michizane. This may have been taken by the British photographer H. G.           This is the smaller Taiko-bashi (Sori-bashi) located in front of the Romon (Sakura Gate) on the right. The Wisteria Festival of Kameido Tenjin Shrine held from mid-April to mid-May every year is a harbinger of summer. There are many other events held at the shrine. The parents of young children release carp into Shinji Pond during the Shichi-Go-San Festival on November 15 to pray for the healthy growth of their children.                   Omoto Park on the west side of Itsukushima Shinto Shrine has been known for its beautiful cherry blossoms since the Edo Period. These cherry blossoms were depicted by Nagasawa Rosetsu in The Eight Scenes of Itsukushima (Important Cultural Asset) under the title Omoto Cherry Blossoms.                     Yasaka Shrine is seen from the east, facing west. The main hall is on the right and the worship hall on the left. The main hall, rebuilt by the fourth shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna in 1654, is modeled after the Shishinden. Built in single-story irimoya style with a cedar-bark roof, the front is about 12m and the sides about 11m wide. The deity Susano-no-mikoto is worshipped in the central chamber, Kushiinadahime-no-mikoto in the eastern chamber, and Hachiojishin in the western chamber. Taken by F.
