Makoto Saito, historian of U.S. politics, foreign policy, dies a

TOKYO, Japan - Makoto Saito (in file photo), a leading Japanese expert in history of politics and foreign policy of the United States, died of chronic bronchitis at a Tokyo hospital on Jan. 17, his family said. He was 86. A native of Tokyo, Saito graduated in political science from the University of Tokyo in 1942. He later served as professor on the faculty of his alma mater and the International Christian University in Tokyo and president of the Japanese Association for American Studies. (Kyodo)
