Ex-Khmer Rouge leader Khieu Samphan appears at court
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia - Khieu Samphan, former Khmer Rouge head of state, appears at a U.N.-backed Khmer Rouge tribunal in Phnom Penh on April 23. The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, however, postponed a hearing on his request for bail, citing a controversy over language. Khieu Samphan, 76, nominal head of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia in the late 1970s, was charged last November with crimes against humanity and war crimes by the ECCC. (Kyodo)
