Man jailed for life for 1990 murder freed after DNA test

CHIBA, Japan - Toshikazu Sugaya, a 62-year-old man sentenced to life in prison for the 1990 murder of a 4-year-old girl, is released from Chiba Prison in Chiba Prefecture on June 4 after 17 years in jail. Prosecutors told a high court they will approve a retrial because a recent DNA test showed it is highly likely that he is innocent of the crime. (Kyodo)
