Nikon develops digital camera with built-in wireless LAN

TOKYO, Japan - Nikon Corp. has developed what it says is the world's first digital camera with a built-in function allowing users to transmit image data wirelessly to printers and personal computers. The Coolpix P1 -- 9.1 centimeters by 6.0 cm by 3.9 cm -- can transmit image data to a PC up to 30 meters away from the user, Nikon said, adding that it will put the camera on the market Sept. 23 for about 50,000 yen. Sony to market 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera June 1

TOKYO, Japan - Sony Corp. said on May 14 it will put on the market on June 1 what it claims to be the world's first compact digital camera (in handout photo) with a resolution of 12.1 megapixels. The new camera, called Cyber-shot DSC-W200, measures 58.5 millimeters high, 91 mm wide and 27.3 mm deep. The price is open but the product is expected to retail for about 50,000 yen. (Kyodo)

Matsushita to launch world's largest plasma TV in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said it will begin taking orders on Sept. 1 for its newly developed 103-inch plasma TV, which is the world's largest flat-panel TV, for delivery on the Japanese market. The made-to-order TV unveiled at a pres conference in Tokyo on July 19 has a panel measuring 2.3 meters by 1.2 meters and is expected to retail for 6 million yen (about $51,000). (Kyodo)

Lenovo launches latest PC series in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Lenovo Japan Ltd., the Japan unit of China's biggest computer maker Lenovo Group Ltd., begins selling the ''Lenovo 3000'' series personal computers (photo) in Japan on March 6.
