6 sue Fukushima nuclear plant operator for developing thyroid cancer

TOKYO - A group of six people filed a damages suit against the operator of the Fukushima nuclear plant on Thursday, seeking compensation over claims that they developed thyroid cancer after radiation exposure due to the 2011 disaster.

Construction of Fukushima water release facilities to begin Thurs.

Construction of facilities to discharge treated water from the crippled nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture into the sea will commence Thursday, according to the plant operator, even as opposition at home and abroad remains. Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings Inc. Initially, TEPCO had planned to start constructing the facilities in June but it was only approved in July by the Nuclear Regulation Authority. "It is important for us to make the best effort to clear various concerns and anxiety over the discharge plan," a TEPCO official said.

TEPCO transfers some fuel from Fukushima plant No. 3 unit pool

Lifting Of Cover Panels End At Fukushima Nuke Plant

FUKUSHIMA, JAPAN – OCT. 5: The last of six panels of the cover shrouding the No. 1 reactor building of the disaster-hit Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant was lifted on October 5. The lifting of cover panels, each of which is 42-meter long and seven-meter wide, started on July 28 as part of works to dismantle the plant. Tokyo Electric Power Co., the plant operator, said the next step will be a 1.5-year-long job to take away its wall panels and put on windbreak sheets instead, before trying to retrieve nuclear fuels from the pool by March 2021.
