According to the data released from the National Bureau of Statistics on Monday, China's economy got off to a steady start in the first quarter of 2022 despite challenges from an increasingly complex international environment and resurgences of COVID-19 cases at home.

"According to preliminary estimates, China's gross domestic product (GDP) in the first quarter reached 27 trillion yuan, up 4.8 percent year-on-year and 1.3 percent quarter-on-quarter at constant prices."
China's retail sales of consumer goods, a major indicator of the country's consumption strength, went up 3.3 percent year on year in the first quarter, totaling around 10.87 trillion yuan (about 1.7 trillion U.S. dollars)
