STORYLINE:
Thanks to a slew of ecological restoration and protection measures, the Linjiang River in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has seen its water quality improve greatly over the years.
The 88-km Yongchuan section of the Linjiang River, a tributary of the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, was once plagued by severe ecological degradation.
In 2020, the average surface water quality of the river was graded Class III. Notably, the surface water quality of the Linjiang River was greatly improved from pre-2017 levels, when it was classified as Class V.
Surface water quality in China is divided into five classes, with Class V being the worst and Class I being the best.
