The wholesale price index (WPI), or rate of inflation of items in the wholesale market, in India surged to 15.08 percent in April, up from 14.55 percent in March, showed the data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday.
The rate of WPI was 10.74 percent in April 2021. The rate of inflation based on the WPI Food Index grew marginally to 8.88 percent in April from 8.71 percent in March.
"The high inflation is due to rise in prices of mineral oils, basic metals, petroleum and natural gas, chemicals, food and non-food products," said an official statement.
