STORYLINE:
The G20 countries and stakeholders have agreed to contribute 1.1 billion U.S. dollars to financing a global initiative to mitigate future pandemics.
The health and finance ministers of the G20 countries made the commitment during the first G20 Finance and Health Ministerial Meeting in Yogyakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday.
The pledged money will be allocated to Financial Intermediary Fund (FIF) for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response (PPR).
The initiative is expected to create a financing and coordination platform between finance and health on how to address the pandemic.
