STORYLINE:
The annual Phi Ta Khon festival, also known as the Ghost Festival, is being celebrated in northeast Thailand's Loei Province.
Dressing in colorful ghost masks and costumes with cowbells at the waist, locals and tourists enjoyed the carnival atmosphere and paraded in the streets, praying for good health and a bountiful harvest.
The three-day festival runs from July 1-3, attracting many tourists from home and abroad. According to the local tourism department, at least 70,000 tourists are expected to visit Loei during the event.
The Thai government abolished the Thailand Pass registration and insurance coverage required of foreign visitors from July in a bid to revitalize the country's tourism industry.
