Indonesia has decided to raise the fuel prices by 30 percent to manage fiscal pressure from the increasing subsidy.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Saturday announced to raise subsidized fuel price from 7,650 Indonesian rupiahs (0.51 USD) to 10,000 Indonesian rupiahs (0.67 USD) per liter for gasoline. Meanwhile, subsidized diesel price is increased from 5,150 rupiahs (0.35 USD) to 6,800 rupiahs (0.46 USD) per liter. President Widodo said the government raised the administered prices due to the immense pressure on the state budget to subsidize energy.
Furthermore, he argued most of the allocated subsidized fuel was consumed by private cars. The government pledged to re-allocate the subsidy to the direct transfer to the poor. Th
