Olympic runner-up Lee takes Asian Games marathon crown

Olympic silver medalist Lee Bong Ju of South Korea pulls away from Japanese challenger Akira Manai over the final 5 kilometers on Dec. 20 to win the men's marathon, the final event of the 13th Asian Games. Lee, running a steady race in the early morning heat of Bangkok, completed the 42.195-kilometer course from Ayutthaya to the Thammasat University Stadium on the outskirts of Bangkok in an unspectacular 2 hours, 12 minutes, 32 seconds.

Abera pulled away from African rivals with three kilometers left, covering the 42.195 kilometers in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 11 seconds. SAPPORO, Japan - Olympic gold medal favorite Naoko Takahashi warms up for the Sydney Games with an impressive run on July 2 while coasting to victory in the Sapporo international half-marathon.
