Memorial event for Art Blakey held in Osaka temple

OSAKA, Japan - A memorial concert for American jazz drummer Art Blakey, who died at 71 in 1990, was held at a Buddhist temple in Higashi-Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, on Nov. 17. Blakey's daughter, Evelyn (C), took part in the event as a singer. The event was sponsored by Akira Toyoda (R), a Buddhist monk and drummer who studied under Blakey.
