Chiba meets press after CAS dismissed her claim

TOKYO, Japan - Japanese swimmer Suzu Chiba meets the press at a Tokyo hotel Aug. 3 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) dismissed her claim over the Olympic selection process and shut the door to next month's Sydney Games. CAS arbitrators, after hearing arguments from Chiba and the Japan Amateur Swimming Federation (JASF), ruled that the JASF decision to omit the 24-year-old swimmer from the national team for the Sydney Olympics is valid.

Taekwondo names pro wrestler to squad for Asian c'ships

TOKYO, Japan - Popular women's pro wrestler Rumi Kazama is congratulated by Japan Taekwondo Federation director general Tomoyoshi Takahashi in Tokyo on April 27 after the 34-year-old former kick boxer was named to the Japanese squad for the Asian taekwondo championships in Hong Kong in May. Canada's Rebagliati is cleared

Snowboarder Ross Rebagliati shows his gold medal to reporters Feb. 12 after learning he will not have to give it back after all. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) had stripped him of his title after he failed a drugs test, but the decision was overruled on a technicality by the independent Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Japanese police filed no charges against him following more than five hours of questioning earlier in the day. Police also searched his personal belongings at his hotel but found no marijuana.
