'Bon' holiday traffic jams Kanetsu Expressway

TOKYO, Japan - The photo, taken from a Kyodo News helicopter, shows bumper-to-bumper traffic stretched for kilometers near the Tokorozawa Interchange on the Kanetsu Expressway in Saitama Prefecture on Aug. 12. The annual exodus of Japanese leaving for their hometowns or resorts in Japan and abroad for the ''Bon'' midsummer holiday peaked on the day. The return rush is expected to peak around Aug. 15.
