S. Korean artist to create 2,002 face masks for World Cup

KYOTO, Japan - South Korean artist Kim Myong Hee, surrounded by masks she has made, poses at her atelier in Kyoto on Dec. 26. Kim is shaping her own message to the world ahead of the 2002 World Cup soccer finals, to be jointly hosted by Japan and South Korea, by making 2,002 masks with the faces of living people from both countries.

Confederations Cup opens in S. Korea

TAEGU, South Korea - Women dance during the opening ceremony in Taegu on May 30 of the 2001 Korea-Japan Confederations Cup, a rehearsal event for next year's World Cup finals to be co-hosted by South Korea and Japan. Eight teams will take part in the tournament, with four playing first-round matches in South Korea, and four in Japan.

World Cup commemorative stamps to be sold in Japan

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows postage stamps commemorating the 2002 World Cup finals, which will go on sale at post offices across Japan from May 31 to June 28. The government said April 20 that a total of 30 million stamps will be available for 90 yen apiece, which includes a 10 yen donation for the soccer event to be co-hosted by Japan and South Korea. The stamps, available in three designs, feature the official mascots of the World Cup.

Japanese, S. Korean ministers tour ceramics town

The ware originated in Korea. They attended as part of a two-day forum held between Japanese and South Korean ministers to exchange views on a broad range of issues in Kagoshima.
