Nippon Steel, Usinor sign global alliance deal

TOKYO, Japan - Makoto Kihara (R), executive vice president of Nippon Steel Corp., and Jean-Louis Ricaud, senior executive vice president of Usinor SA, shake hands at a press conference in Nippon Steel's head office in Tokyo on Jan. 23. Nippon Steel, the world's second-largest steelmaker, and France's Usinor, Europe's largest steelmaker, signed an alliance agreement in the business of steel sheets for use in automobiles.

Japan's supermarket chain operator Seiyu and the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart, have agreed to form a comprehensive alliance. Under the agreement, trading house Sumitomo, Seiyu's largest shareholder, will increase its stake in Seiyu.

          Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT) President Junichiro Miyazu (C) and AT and T Solutions Vice President Scott Perry (R) announce an agreement to form a data communications service alliance targeting multinational enterprises at a news conference in Tokyo on April 27.
