Koizumi marks anniversary with pledge to boost Japan-U.S. ties
TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the San Francisco peace treaty on Sept. 8 by renewing his pledge to work closely with the United States. ''The importance of the Japan-U.S. alliance is increasing not only for the two countries, but also for the Asia-Pacific region and the world as a whole,'' Koizumi told an event in Tokyo.
