TEPCO develops safer device for checking power lines

TOKYO, Oct. 23 Kyodo - Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said Oct. 23 it has developed a device that can detect the presence of an electric current in power lines without requiring physical contact with the wires. A monitor screen image shows the presence of electric current (in yellow dots) in power lines detected with the device. TEPCO expects to develop a simplified version of the new device that will be about the size of a TV remote controller by the end of fiscal 2002.
