Mayor retracts night landing drill offer, quits post
OKIMI, Japan - Hidekazu Tanimoto, mayor of Okimi in Hiroshima Prefecture, arrives at the town office Feb. 5. He said at a press conference he retracted an offer he made last week to offer uninhabited Okurokamishima Island, owned by the Okimi township in the Seto Inland Sea, for night landing exercises by U.S. warplanes and also resigned from his post to take responsibility for the commotion caused by his proposal.
