KDDI to launch discount fixed-line phone service via IP network

TOKYO, Japan - KDDI Corp. President Tadashi Onodera speaks at a press conference in Tokyo on Sept. 15 of the company's plan to launch a discount fixed-line phone service in February 2005 by introducing an Internet protocol-based network. KDDI's basic monthly charge will be significantly cheaper than offered by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. group firms.
