(2)Supreme Court holds state responsible for Minamata disease
TOKYO, Japan - Toshiyuki Kawakami, head of a group of 45 plaintiffs who sued the central and Kumamoto prefectural governments to seek compensation for the Minamata mercury-poisoning disease, speaks at a press conference in Tokyo on Oct. 15 after the Supreme Court held the state and prefectural governments responsible for the disease in the 1950s and 1960s.
