Matsushita sees record 1st-half group sales, 16-year high profit

TOKYO, Japan - Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. President Fumio Otsubo speaks at a press conference in Tokyo on Oct. 27. He said the company's group operating profit in the April-September period of fiscal 2006 jumped 21.2 percent from a year earlier to 207.39 billion yen, its highest level in 16 years, on record sales for any first half.

                  Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has finalized a new fundraising framework totaling over 100 billion yen. In addition to raising 80-90 billion yen from Ichigo Asset Group, an independent investment fund, JDI will also sell some of its facilities at its Hakusan plant (Hakusan, Ishikawa Prefecture) to Apple Inc. On April 12, JDI announced that it had reached a basic agreement with Ichigo Trust to raise up to 90 billion yen from Ichigo.
