VW to release new Golf car with powerful gasoline engine

TOKYO, Japan - Tsutomu Ueno, president of Volkswagen Group Japan K.K., stands by the Golf GT TSI during a presentation in Tokyo on Jan. 19. The new Volkswagen Golf model equipped with a powerful yet frugal gasoline engine will go on sale in the Japanese market on Feb. 6.

VW releases compact EVs for Japanese market

TOKYO, Japan - Volkswagen Group Japan unveils in Tokyo on Oct. 14, 2014, the "e-up!" (R) and "e-Golf" models, the first compact electric cars to be sold in the Japanese market. Their release is scheduled in 2015.

TonenGeneral to buy Mitsui Oil to create 3rd largest oil wholesaler

TOKYO, Japan - Jun Muto, president of oil wholesaler TonenGeneral Sekiyu K.K., announces at a news conference in Tokyo on Dec. 18, 2013, that the company will acquire a stake of nearly 90 percent in Mitsui Oil Co. for 24.9 billion yen from the trader on Feb. 4. The acquisition would allow the TonenGeneral group to rival Cosmo Oil Co. as Japan's third-largest oil wholesaler in terms of sales following JX Holdings Inc. and Idemitsu Kosan Co.

Volkswagen cars imported by Japan unit top 1 million
