100th anniversary of Scouting Movement marked in Japan
TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito (R) offers a toast to King Gustav of Sweden (3rd L), the honorary president of the World Scout Foundation, at a banquet held in Tokyo on Oct. 5 to mark the centenary of the Scouting Movement. Members of the Japanese imperial family have been active in Japan's scouting events ever since Emperor Akihito's father, the late Emperor Hirohito, met with Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of the Scouting Movement, in England while he was crown prince.
