Russian boy leaves hospital after treatment for serious burns

SAPPORO, Japan - Nikita Ryzhov, a 2-year-old Russian boy from Kunashiri Island, holds a bouquet of flowers at the Sapporo University Hospital in Hokkaido on Dec. 7 after he was discharged from the hospital where he underwent skin transplant operations for serious burns. Ryzhov was the first patient from one of the four Russian-held islands claimed by Japan to be transferred to a Japanese hospital for emergency treatment.

Etorofu girl leaves hospital after heart surgery

SAPPORO, Japan - Three-year-old Evgeniya (R), held by her mother Veronika Rodionova (L), 34, leaves the Hokkaido University hospital in Sapporo on Nov. 30 after more than a month of treatment for heart disease. Evgeniya, who is from Russian-occupied Etorofu Island, underwent surgery on Oct. 25 under the Japanese government's humanitarian aid program for four Russian-held islands that lie off Japan's northernmost main island of Hokkaido and are claimed by Japan.

Kosovo boy's eye tumor almost cured

KANAZAWA, Japan - An ethnic Albanian boy from Kosovo suffering from a malignant tumor of the retina leaves Kanazawa University hospital in Ishikawa Prefecture on Nov. 17 after treatment which lasted four months was successful.
