Part of mom's lung transplanted to 3-yr-old son
OKAYAMA, Japan - Takahiro Oto, associate professor of respiratory surgery at Okayama University Hospital, holds a press conference in Okayama City on the night of July 1, 2013, after the state-run university hospital successfully transplanted part of a mother's lung to her 3-year-old son in the world's first transplant of a middle lobe from a living donor. The boy, who had experienced a decline in lung function, is the youngest lung recipient in Japan, the hospital said.
