'First Swim of the Year' held in Wakayama

TANABE, Japan - Residents of Tanabe, a coastal town in Wakayama Prefecture, frolic in wintry waters on a local beach Jan. 2 in a ''First Swim of the Year'' organized by the local swimming association. The air temperature in Tanabe was 6 C at 9 a.m., and the water temperature measured a lower-than-average 14 C. A total of 50 people took part in the winter swim.
