Asashoryu escapes defeat on 5th day of New Year sumo

TOKYO, Japan - Asashoryu (L) just manages to bend over the edge of the ring as No. 2 maegashira Toyonoshima is left sprawling on the ground, giving the yokozuna a narrow victory on the fifth day of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament in Tokyo on Jan. 17. Asashoryu remains one match behind undefeated yokozuna Hakuho.
