Japan shelves dispatching defense force for China quake aid

TOKYO, Japan - Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura announces May 30 that Japan has shelved a plan for its Air Self-Defense Force to airlift relief supplies for victims of a major earthquake that hit China's Sichuan Province. ''Considering, among others, cautious views emerging in some quarters in China, and after discussions between Japan and China, we have decided to forgo transportation using SDF aircraft,'' Machimura said at a press conference.
