TOKYO, Japan - Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, in front of the altar, and other participants offer a silent prayer at the national memorial service for the war dead at Nippon Budokan Hall in Tokyo on Aug. 15, the 63rd anniversary of Japan's defeat in World War II.
