KDDI, Rostelecom to launch fiber-optic submarine cables

TOKYO, Japan - Konstantin Solodukhin (L), general director of Rostelecom, Russia's largest long-distance telecom carrier, and Yasuhiko Ito, executive vice president of Japanese telecommunications firm KDDI Corp., shake hands during a press conference in Tokyo on Sept. 5 to announce that the two companies will begin operating fiber-optic undersea cables between the two countries for high-speed data transmission.

Toyota posts record 1st-half profits
