Schieffer calls for reexamination of collective defense

TOKYO, Japan - Outgoing U.S. Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer speaks during a press conference at the Japan National Press Club in Tokyo on Jan. 14. He said Japan should reexamine its interpretation of the Constitution with regard to the ban on engaging in collective self-defense and urged Japan to do more in relation to the reconstruction of Afghanistan and antipiracy operations.
