Hatoyama hopes Ozawa will stay on as DPJ secretary general

TOKYO, Japan - Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama addresses his Democratic Party of Japan's annual convention at Hibiya Public Hall in Tokyo on Jan. 16, 2010. Hatoyama, who is also DPJ president, said he hopes Ichiro Ozawa will do his best to perform his duties as secretary general. Earlier in the day, Ozawa's secretary Takanori Okubo was arrested by prosecutors in connection with a scandal over political-fund reports linked to a land purchase by Ozawa's fund management body following the arrests of DPJ lawmaker Tomohiro Ishikawa and Ozawa's former secretary Mitsutomo Ikeda on Jan. 15.
