Japan Airlines files for bankruptcy protection

TOKYO, Japan - A notice in front of Japan Airlines Corp. check-in counters at Tokyo's Haneda airport on Jan. 19, 2010, states that JAL will continue business with support from the state-backed Enterprise Turnaround Initiative Corp. of Japan after the carrier filed for bankruptcy protection earlier in the day.
