Kan says nuclear deterrence necessary

HIROSHIMA, Japan - Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan speaks at a press conference in Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 2010, the 65th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the city. Kan said nuclear deterrence is necessary for Japan, shrugging off a call from the Hiroshima mayor for departing from the U.S. ''nuclear umbrella'' to take the lead in creating a world without nuclear weapons.
