Takeda to acquire Swiss drugmaker

TOKYO, Japan - Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. President Yasuchika Hasegawa makes an announcement at a press conference in Tokyo on May 19, 2011. The largest Japanese drugmaker has signed an agreement with the shareholders of Swiss drugmaker Nycomed S/A to acquire all shares in the Swiss firm for 9.6 billion euros (about 1 trillion yen).

President Masayo Tada speaks about the company's plan to buy U.S. pharmaceutical maker Sepracor Inc. for about $2.6 billion (around 240 billion yen) at a news conference in Tokyo on Sept. 3. Sepracor will become a wholly owned unit of Dainippon Sumitomo Pharma America Holdings Inc., a U.S. subsidiary of the Japanese drugmaker.
