MATSUE, Japan - The inside of the Lafcadio Hearn Memorial Museum in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture, is pictured on March 30, 2012, ahead of a year-long exhibition from April 1, 2012. It follows through photographs the footsteps of writer Lafcadio Hearn, who became a naturalized Japanese known as Yakumo Koizumi.

        TOKYO, Nov. 30 Kyodo - File photo taken in March 2004 shows Japanese cartoonist Shigeru Mizuki drawing characters from his popular horror comic series "Gegege no Kitaro" on a wall in the lobby of the Mizuki Shigeru Kinenkan museum in Sakaiminato in Tottori Prefecture, western Japan. Mizuki died of multiple organ failure on Nov. 30, 2015, at age 93.

          FUKUOKA, July 27 Kyodo - Popular "Ukiyo-e" artist Kitagawa Utamaro's painting of a courtesan drawn solely with black ink in the late 18th century with Utamaro's friend and writer Santo Kyoden's writing on the lives of courtesans is seen in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan, on July 22, 2015. The painting, discovered in April, will be exhibited at the Fukuoka Art Museum from Aug. 8.

                    KOBE, Japan - Visitors to the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art in Kobe on Nov. 22, 2014, look at a bronze sculpture discovered after the Great Hanshin Earthquake that hit the western Japan prefecture in January 1995. The sculpture, produced in 1915 by the late Shikai Kitamura, is on display ahead of the 20th anniversary of the disaster next year.
